It ain’t over till it’s over -- Iraq, Afghanistan
dasha, Monday, Sep 6 2010, 9:37am
The Corporate controlled media is currently overflowing with outright bullshit regarding America’s wars of invasion and occupation. The line running is that the combat mission in Iraq is at an end and that the war is ‘over;’ also that ‘progress’ is being made in Afghanistan and that that war is ‘winnable.’ To add to those American dreams is the frantic sell that the global economy is ‘recovering.’ (story and 1 image)

Global economy: dead man walking
lynx, Monday, Aug 30 2010, 6:44pm
I thought I’d heard it all until Ben Bernanke, bereft of any positive remedies or strategies, openly stated to the world that he would support the failed economy with more ‘quantitative easing’ i.e. printing worthless toilet paper money and attempting to indebt people and nations with a privately owned printing press – for fuck’s sake Ben, the jig is up! Canada: A Democracy in Crisis
Murray Dobbin via stan, Sunday, Jun 13 2010, 10:02pm
Canada is in the midst of a crisis in democracy unique in its history. There is simply no other historical example that one can compare it to. It is multi-faceted and it affects every aspect of our national politics and political discourse. It is inexorably eroding the political fabric of the country and therefore our viability as a democratic nation.

All Lies
Mike Whitney via stele, Tuesday, Jun 8 2010, 10:29pm
Israel has become Myanmar on the Jordan. Every new act of violence deepens the paranoia, the resentment, the isolation. The killing of 9 peace activists aboard the Mavi Marmara was celebrated in Tel Aviv--another blood victory against the 'terrorists', another triumph against those who would harm Israel. Heads of state around the world have condemned the butchery, but Israelis have shrugged off the criticism. They think that support for the activists is anti-Semitism. They think that food and medicine are weapons that will be used by Hamas against Israel. This is madness, but madness has consequences. Nine people are dead.

Some Big Lies of Science
Denis G. Rancourt via reed, Monday, Jun 7 2010, 7:03am
“The majority of politicians, on the evidence available to us, are interested not in truth but in power and in the maintenance of that power. To maintain that power it is essential that people remain in ignorance, that they live in ignorance of the truth, even the truth of their own lives. What surrounds us therefore is a vast tapestry of lies, upon which we feed.” – Harold Pinter, Nobel Lecture (Literature), 2005

Great choice, Oz!
stele, Sunday, May 16 2010, 8:46pm
The Murdoch, Stokes and other mass media organisations in Oz are exercising their influence on the masses by offering THEIR alternatives to the now fully exposed (popularity trashed) POLICY FAILED, narcissistic PM, Kevin ‘show pony’ Rudd; who imagined that managing a nation amounted to slavishly following Washington in unwinnable wars, serving Wall St, the RBA and other unrepresentative minority interests. Bought American Senators vote down bill to audit the Fed
sol, Tuesday, May 11 2010, 9:00pm
The most powerful and secretive PRIVATE BANK in the world has succeeded in defeating a bill that would have REVEALED its monetary dealings – what does this PRIVATE consortium have to hide from the people? There is no doubt whatsoever that FULL DISCLOSURE of monetary policy is required of a BANK that pretends to be a Federal Institution! The private lobbyist coup against an audit becomes yet another nail in the coffin of American democracy. The take-over of American government by PRIVATE CORPORATE interests is almost COMPLETE. The USA is now a CONFIRMED CORPORATE (therefore fascist) STATE – it offers a heinous, criminal track record as proof of the FACT! (story and 1 image)

What's in a Word?
Pierre Tristam via quill, Tuesday, May 11 2010, 7:03am
The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press just released a survey testing reactions to political rhetoric—whether people react positively or negatively to words like “progressive” or “socialism” or phrases like “states’ rights” or “civil liberties.” The results were not surprising in some regards. Say the phrases “civil rights,” “civil liberties” and “states’ rights,” and between 87 percent and 77 percent of people respond positively. Even the word “progressive,” which the right-wing machinery on Fox and friends is doing its best to turn into a slander, gets a 68 percent positive response, including 56 percent of Republicans.

Iraq: an American ‘Success’ Story
Al, Monday, May 10 2010, 11:45pm
Iraq is an excellent example of American ‘success,’ knowhow and ‘genius,’ is it not? Afghanistan is proving a better example still! These two screaming, REAL LIFE examples of American incompetence, ineptitude, overt flouting of international law and human rights, just won’t fade into the background. Almost daily the newswires contain more horrid examples of civilian killing by Americans and the MASSIVE DESTABILISATION that ensues. The ‘stability, liberty and democracy’ that America promised Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan AND the WORLD, is proving to be a very bitter experience for the innocent civilians of Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Take a quick squiz at the REALITY today and VERIFY the truth for yourself. (story and 3 comments and 1 image)

Failure by Conscious Design: Private Banking
cleaves, Saturday, May 8 2010, 11:57pm
The masses sometimes remind me of a woman I once knew; completely oppressed/stifled by her current relationship and living conditions but unable to face the uncertainty and challenge of breaking FREE! Don’t we all know it to a greater or lesser extent? Gender really has nothing to do with our internal contradictions, fears and the uncertainty of facing the unknown. Nevertheless, how does this analogy of human emotions relate to the forced failure of the (criminal) PRIVATE banking/financial system?

Rudd earns the ire of Aussies
bluey, Monday, May 3 2010, 11:32am
In perhaps one of the worst examples of cynical politics this nation has seen, incumbent Australian PM, Kevin ‘show pony’ Rudd, is attempting to distract the attention of the population away from his ruinous policy failures by implementing minor tax and health reforms and attacking the 'soft target,' tobacco industry. However, the list of Rudd’s failures, which range from Japanese whaling, ETS, computers for every student, home insulation debacle, ‘borderless’ security and indebting OUR nation and future generations to nefarious foreign Banksters (stimulus) that print ‘fiat’ (toilet-paper) money in exchange for our REAL assets, are far too prominent to be ignored or brushed away. Rudd’s track record does not exactly fill one with confidence; we now know that Rudd is less concerned with positive results than he is with appearances, distractions and political trickery. Criminal elites – see how they run!
ryall, Wednesday, Apr 28 2010, 9:30pm
As a kid I enjoyed a fairytale about a Lion raised as a sheep. One day, faced with predatory wolves, this LION realised who it was and what it was FULLY capable of; it easily vanquished the threat to its loved ones and its society. Today, as an adult, the allegory is clear – those unfamiliar with this delightful animated story should search Youtube for, ‘Lambert the Sheepish Lion.’ (story and 1 audio file)
