Royal Dutch Shell image Shell Oil pays $19.5m to avoid facing criminal proceedings Meredith Griffiths via talya, Tuesday, Jun 9 2009, 5:53am
Oil company Shell has agreed to pay $19.5 million to avoid standing trial over accusations that it was complicit in human rights abuses in Nigeria in the 1990s. The families of nine people executed in 1995 accused Shell of collaborating with the country's military regime to silence the activists for protesting against the oil company's environmental practices in the Niger Delta. Sun image Earth Changes according to Edgar Cayce quill, Sunday, Apr 12 2009, 8:03am
Edgar Cayce needs no introduction for those sensitive to life and its greater meaning. Humankind has unfortunately failed itself; it failed to learn two simple lessons, brotherly Love and Peace! The USA leads the world today in mass murder, plunder, selfishness, crime and all manner of vile pursuits. Those who follow will share in the 'reward!'

I leave you with some interesting predictions. (story and 4 images)

Recent events have warranted the upgrade of this comment -- originally to article 304 -- to story status. The principal considerations for the upgrade relate to relevancy and timeliness.

The sheer beauty and power of Nature's forces may have also influenced our decision; 'let her rip, Gaia -- way to go!' (story and 1 comment and 1 image)

Over twenty years ago (take note Al) an Australian commercial channel aired a program on the impending destructive effects of pollution on the climate and the environment. It was a measured, rational, non-sensationalist but heavily supported with scientific data presentation. It detailed the effects of global warming on major ocean currents and the dire consequences for North-Western Europe; it highlighted the potential wholesale destruction of sensitive coral reefs and the maritime ecology. It referred to biological indicators, stressed amphibians, frogs and the disturbed migration pattern of birds. All evident at the time – 20 years ago! But the most alarming indicator was accelerated glacial melting/receding -- high mountain glaciers feed the world’s largest food producing river systems! (story and 2 comments and 2 images)

The title is the most accurate description of today’s politicians – worldwide! In the face of impending global catastrophe driven by pollution-induced global warming our corporate controlled politicians maintain that monetary matters are our principal concern – NOT SO! A UN study group has just delivered a clear warning to HUMANKIND – in this case late is not better than never! For the past few decades specialists have been heard sounding exactly the same alarms/warnings from the modern wilderness. However, certain COMMERCIAL interests have muted the warning cries of concerned scientists and environmentalists. The most recent example is George W Bush favouring reports from oil company friendly ‘scientists’ refuting the effects of industrial, petro-chemical pollution on the planet’s climate and sensitive eco-systems. These delaying tactics only postponed the inevitable – runaway global warming and environmental chaos! (story and 3 images)

Open water in sea ice image Climate Change and Entire Landscapes on the Move Stephen Leahy via reed, Friday, Oct 5 2007, 11:37pm
BROOKLIN, Canada - The hot breath of global warming has now touched some of the coldest northern regions of world, turning the frozen landscape into mush as temperatures soar 15 degrees C. above normal. Entire hillsides, sometimes more than a kilometre long, simply let go and slid like a vast green carpet into valleys and rivers on Melville Island in Canada’s northwest Arctic region of Nunavut this summer, says Scott Lamoureux of Queens University in Canada and leader of one the of International Polar Year projects. TORONTO, Aug 16 (IPS) - Scientists warn that climate change tipping points are imminent, and will lead to potentially catastrophic events like a seven-metre sea level rise. 12 foot ice phallus, gone! image Global Warming melts God’s phallus sadh, Monday, Jul 9 2007, 4:35pm
The annual pilgrimage of thousands of Hindus to a cave deep in the sacred Himalayas has been curtailed due to the object of veneration melting. The culprit is global warming. Many religious Hindus view this occurrence as an ill omen and they may be right. Most men would be slightly peeved if they suddenly lost their salute to creation – but the anger of a God in similar circumstances would know no bounds. A naturally forming phallic ice stalagmite venerated as a symbol of the proto-typical phallic God of death, destruction and regeneration/life, Lord Siva, has failed to form this year – Amarnath cave is without its sacred object. text The first refugees of global warming Laurie Goering via rialator, Wednesday, May 2 2007, 12:25pm
ANTARPARA, Bangladesh -- Muhammad Ali, a wiry 65-year-old, has never driven a car, run an air conditioner or done much of anything that produces greenhouse gases. But on a warming planet, he is on the verge of becoming a climate refugee.

In the past 10 years the farmer has had to tear down and move his tin-and-bamboo house five times to escape the encroaching waters of the huge Jamuna River, swollen by severe monsoons that scientists believe are caused by global warming and greater glacier melt in the Himalayas.

BANKSY -- sweeper image Climate Change and Corporate Litigation Anxiety dingo, Friday, Oct 13 2006, 10:05pm
A recent news item on NPR this week -- legal action against the automotive industry in the USA for its complicity in global warming -- has let the ‘bull’ out of the bag; the ‘cat’ has bolted; the unmentionable has finally been plainly stated! Nothing occurs in a vacuum and climate change is no exception. Liable groups/parties/corporations continue to lobby governments and manipulate public opinion in their efforts to minimise any litigation arising from their complicity in poisoning our planet. Present reality dictates that the future tenability of numerous species, including humans is under threat; nevertheless, profits and economic factors remain the primary consideration for leaders of industry and governments. [This criminally perverse view will ironically prove to be the most expensive error of judgement in human history.] (story and 1 comment and 1 image)
