Hicks case becomes Quicksand for Oz Government
budgie, Saturday, Mar 31 2007, 2:54pm
When things are a bit slow we can always rely on the Australian conservative government to entertain us -- their now very desperate (divorced from reality) attempts to come out of the Hicks “saga” smelling roses are entertaining if nothing else. The impossibility of the Howard government looking good over any issue relating to Hicks hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm of the Federal Treasurer, Peter Costello. The Treasurer has very unwisely waded into the debate with characteristic arrogance and miscalculated comments directed at Hicks. Try as Costello might to incriminate Hicks and brand him a murderer, the facts defy his every attempt. (story and 1 image)

American Justice: Hicks Tortured, Rumsfeld Exonerated!
Kingfisher, Wednesday, Mar 28 2007, 12:14pm
The now infamous Donald Rumsfeld has avoided legal responsibility for the extremely controversial ruling he made in December 2002, which effectively allowed the U.S. military to utilise torture methods against their perceived or imagined enemies. An American court ruled that Rumsfeld had no case to answer due principally to the fact that as Secretary of Defence he was IMMUNE from the charges! One Law for you and another for me! If the public ever wondered why Bush, Blair and Howard appear unconcerned over the prospect of war crimes charges, perhaps the Rumsfeld decision sheds some light on the matter. (story and 1 image)

Howard blunders badly over Hicks Case
nano, Tuesday, Mar 27 2007, 12:14pm
John Howard, the servile Australian prime minister has probably ended his tenure in office over his blind, sycophantic support of the flagrantly illegal proceedings against the Australian citizen, David Hicks. Howard’s extraordinary support of a foreign power at the cost of his own nation and its values is a political blunder from which it is almost impossible to recover. The very widely known facts of the Kangaroo military proceedings against Hicks speak for themselves. Any nation that legalises torture, flouts the Geneva convention and International law; attacks civil liberties and human rights; denies habeas corpus; admits hearsay ‘evidence’ obtained under duress and torture has no legal or moral claim on the concept of justice whatsoever. The entire world (with the exception of John Howard) is cognisant of that fact! (story and 1 image)

The Failure of Modern Western Society
finn, Friday, Mar 23 2007, 2:12pm
Wind down from your artificially induced stress/pace and confront your personal reality – take stock for a moment. Your existence has been confined to sustaining and maintaining a system that makes ever-increasing demands on your liberty and freedom – the pillars upon which joy and satisfaction are built/derived! The frenzied pace of western society is largely the result of the manic need for ever increasing profits and greater concentrations of wealth in the fewest possible hands, which inevitably places higher demands on those at the bottom of the financial scale. Obtaining wealth is simply a matter of applying unfair downward pressure in favour of upward flowing benefits; wealth is not created it is the result of manipulation and/or theft – the historical record bears this out. Put simply, profit is exploitation/theft!

New World Order
peptide, Wednesday, Mar 21 2007, 10:22am
A recent article brought home the shocking truth of today’s new world order by contrasting the social outrage expressed against Richard Nixon for his minor offence of a break and enter (Watergate) with today's social complacency in the face of half-a-million civilian dead in Iraq. The office of president of the USA has become an experimental position where corporate placed buffoons are allowed to reign ruin on the world. The “bouquet of flowers, mission accomplished, WMD, give war a chance”, administration got it wrong from the start yet ‘bouquet’ Wolfowitz has been promoted to president of the World Bank, where he continues to bungle and lose to other interests (China). The incompetent clown, Bush, remains president and the criminals who benefit remain behind the scenes profiting on the misery of others! (story and 2 images)

The Politics of Apathy: an Australian story
yarra, Friday, Mar 16 2007, 1:29pm
While America leads the world in insularism and denial, Australia is the world leader in complacency and apathy. No cultural equivalent for the Oz expression, “she’ll be right, mate”, exists anywhere – notwithstanding the variation of “who gives a shit?” Today, non-involvement is proving to be a very costly cultural habit. America has become the world’s most hated nation and will soon attract very real consequences for its actions, one of which is the acquisition of Australia as a colonial trophy. Australia remains an international laughing stock under the servile leadership of lackey prime minister, John Howard; Aussies are experiencing their eleventh year under the rule of the most slavish, gutless, lying, duplicitous, cringing, government on record. No other leader in world history has displayed the servility and cowardice of John Howard. When America says jump, the despicable little coward, Howard, says how high, boss! (story and 2 images)

The Fragility of Power
peptide, Wednesday, Mar 14 2007, 1:34pm
Surely a little nudge does not warrant such an over-reaction from the panic-stricken U.S. administration. One of the last ‘cards’ in the neo-con deck has been played, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, conveniently held in reserve for future political emergencies, has confessed to everything from 9/11, to stealing my son’s push bike. Panic reigns in conservative park! Whatever happened to Bin Laden? The extreme measure of producing a victim of classic torture/brainwashing in a futile attempt to save the day for conservatives around the world, from Bush to the Howard government of Australia, is bound to fail. Independent experts in various fields could easily determine whether or not the subject is in a fit psychological state and whether any confessions should be taken seriously. Nevertheless, conservative leaders everywhere were quick to try and capitalise on this exceedingly transparent event. (story and 2 comments and 2 images)

The Elite Revolution
twin, Monday, Mar 12 2007, 10:58am
If a single quote could sum up the ‘ability and acumen’ of the Bush administration Rumsfeld’s classic of, “the past was not predictable when it started”, would have to be a front runner. Years from now students will read early 21st century American history with incredulity and dismay. Who could blame any high school student for thinking that historians got it wrong? How could a person with the logic of a mad hatter rise to the position of Defence Secretary in the world’s most powerful military nation; and how could the President of the day consider that person a valuable asset/adviser? The US, the world's hedge fund
Max Fraad Wolff via rialator, Monday, Feb 26 2007, 11:00am
There are some strange facts about the asset and trade positions of the US economy in the globalizing economy. The United States runs massive and growing trade deficits, is borrowing at a clip that would arouse the suspicions of a casino pit boss, and has been selling its assets to anyone who will buy. In the past 24 months, the US balance on goods and services comes in just shy of negative-$1.5 trillion. Across the same period, the US has sunk further into debt to the rest of the world.

Rajiv Sikri via rialator, Saturday, Feb 24 2007, 8:03pm
The long-awaited meeting of the foreign ministers of India, China and Russia in New Delhi on February 14, was, at one level, merely the latest in a series of trilateral meetings at this level held annually since 2002, generally on the margins of multilateral gatherings. (story and 1 image)

A Disorderly Retreat: Australian Conservatives on the Back Foot
peptide, Monday, Feb 19 2007, 9:45pm
The Australian Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer tonight made his first ’07 appearance on the popular current affairs program, Lateline. Downer, known locally as a gutless, smug, toff, was clearly on the back foot when confronted with the two principal issues that are decimating the conservative government; participation in the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq and the abandonment of the Australian citizen, David Hicks.

Conservative Lunacy and Public Paralysis
nano, Saturday, Feb 17 2007, 3:52pm
The Australian Federal Treasurer, Peter (supercilious prick) Costello today impetuously let one cat out of the (tactics) bag! Responding to a question relating to the economy, Costello took the opportunity to state that “the people wouldn’t trust their mortgages to the opposition party or to the leader of the opposition”. Tired fear tactics aside, Costello’s statement relates directly to the crippling debt the Australian public has been experiencing since the conservatives took office (hint!) The conservatives are the problem not the solution. (story and 1 image)

Information Warfare, Psy-ops and the Power of Myth
Mike Whitney via rialator, Friday, Feb 16 2007, 12:24pm
The Pentagon’s bold new approach to psychological operations (psy-ops) appears to have derived from the theories of former State Dept official, Philip Zelikow (who also served on the 9-11 Commission) Zelikow is an expert on “the creation and maintenance of ‘public myths’ or ‘public presumptions’. His theory analyzes how consciousness is shaped by “searing events” which take on “transcendent importance” and, therefore, move the public in the direction chosen by the policymakers. Lost Directions
budgie, Thursday, Feb 15 2007, 10:00am
The USA is that way! The most servile government in Australian history achieved a new ‘personal best’ in bootlicking today. Yesterday's parliament question time witnessed the Minister of Defence, Brendan (studs) Nelson and the Foreign Minister, Alexander (cream puff) Downer bending over forwards in preparation for Cheney’s visit. Astounding as it may seem to most Australians these two lackeys were attempting to score political points by extolling the virtues of neo-colonial subservience to the United States! Australian PM criticises Barack Obama
nano, Saturday, Feb 10 2007, 10:14am
John Howard, known internationally as a Bush lackey, shameless coward, racist and abandoner of Australian citizens, today levelled a criticism at U.S. Presidential candidate, Barack Obama. The ‘aluminium tubing’ Prime Minister stated that Obama’s Iraq policy would “completely destabilise and destroy Iraq”. Howard seems ‘completely’ oblivious to the FACT that his participation in the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq has ALREADY COMPLETELY DESTABILISED AND DESTROYED Iraq! What’s the Death Toll, Mr. Bush?
peptide, Friday, Feb 9 2007, 11:29am
The ever increasing, unmentionable death toll of U.S. military expansionism in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and elsewhere exceeds one million souls. The human casualties have achieved unification and consensus at last! The slogan of death is unutterable, perfectly silent and devastatingly effective! Devoid of tribe, nation, race, religion and every other divisive factor that contributed to their demise, all humans are united in death – they are finished! In death there are no ideologies, 'critical issues' or causes. (story and 2 images)

Chinese Smile vs American Gun
Kwang zi, Wednesday, Feb 7 2007, 8:25am
China's President Hu Jintao re-establishes trade links with Africa vowing not to interfere with the sovereign rights of African nations. The net result of this soft approach is African nations clamouring to the Chinese whose trade links with Africa extend thousands of years into the past. Archaeologists have uncovered the remains of large African port cities containing artefacts and trade material from China and Africa. Large amounts of ceramics, ivory, gems, precious metals and a wealth of other artefacts reveal a long history of lively and thriving two-way trade between the two continents. (story and 2 images)

Reality knocks, nobody Home!
nano, Tuesday, Jan 30 2007, 8:33am
All demagogues and most politicians are familiar with the curious phenomenon of the diminished intelligence of a crowd relative to the mean intelligence quotient of all the individuals that comprise it! The level of intelligence of a crowd decreases as the size of the crowd increases. Less known, however, is the diminished ability of the crowd to act without the assistance of an orchestrater or conductor. In the face of the most heinous crimes, today’s populations are conspicuous by their complacency, silence and inability to act. The crowd waits patiently for an appropriate catalyst or activator to trigger an appropriate response. (story and 3 comments and 1 attached file)

Australia Day: national Shame and Failure day
finch, Thursday, Jan 25 2007, 1:27pm
I had to laugh out loud this tragic ‘Australia’ Day; are we celebrating our total disregard for a national identity by allowing a foreign power to indefinitely torture an Australian citizen, David Hicks? Should we beam with pride at the ‘Australian’ flag, incorporating the pommy Union Jack? Or perhaps we should pay homage to the most cowardly, servile and traitorous Prime Minister in Australian history! Australia Day 2007 will long be remembered as national shame day. A nowhere people celebrating a nowhere nation with the appropriate ‘leader’ who leads his herd of cringing servile nobodies, nowhere! Today we all share in the most pathetic and tragic Australia Day in history, Oi, Oi, Oink!
