From Slaves to Fighters
gan, Saturday, Sep 27 2008, 2:31am
Globalisation is not new it has been practised by European and Muslim Imperial powers for centuries. The African slave trade is perhaps the earliest example of economic globalisation. This dastardly trade was characterised by a number of separate nations and cultures cooperating to supply a valuable ‘resource’ around the globe – human beings commodified as SLAVE labour! I would emphasise that Christian and Muslim powers COOPERATED to enslave tribal Africans. (story and 2 images)

Only in America
yarra, Friday, Sep 26 2008, 9:51am
Recent events in the USA relating to the economic meltdown highlight the old cliché, ‘only in America’ … is the population so subservient, passive, afraid and compliant that it accepts flagrant corruption and racketeering from the financial, banking and business sectors. It is not enough that fat cats wreak havoc on the quality of (American) life -- the clueless, puppet government on orders from the ruling private sector expect the overburdened American public to shoulder the entire responsibility for bailing out the Robber Barons who have destroyed the economy. Banking and Wall St Racketeers EXPOSED!
finch, Tuesday, Sep 23 2008, 11:09pm
Al Capone stated at the time of his arrest that he was a small fry criminal, he referred to bankers, businessmen and government as the biggest criminals in the land. Capone learned from his experiences as a hoodlum and his SYMBIOTIC relationship with those 'respectable authorities' who actually ran crime in the USA – organised crime cannot exist without corrupt officials, dishonest bankers and unscrupulous businessmen. Sarah Palin brandishes ‘phallic trophy:’ the symbolism is not lost
budgie, Tuesday, Sep 23 2008, 2:41am
Holding a giant tube of ‘lipstick’ aloft there is no stopping this gutsy, all-American gal who is winning the hearts and subliminal minds of the American people. At present she is unbeatable; the democrats have no answer for the ‘Palin push,’ none whatsoever -- though an answer surely exists! (story and 1 image)

From Laissez-faire to Autocracy
Mike Whitney via reed, Monday, Sep 22 2008, 3:05am
These are dark times. While you were sleeping the cockroaches were busy about their work, rummaging through the US Constitution, and putting the finishing touches on a scheme to assert absolute power over the nation's financial markets and the country's economic future. Industry representative Henry Paulson has submitted legislation to congress that will finally end the pretense that Bush controls anything more than reading the lines from a 4' by 6' teleprompter situated just inches from his lifeless pupils. Paulson is in charge now, and the coronation is set for sometime early next week. He rose to power in a stealthily-executed Bankster's Coup in which he, and his coterie of dodgy friends, declared martial law on the US economy while elevating himself to supreme leader. [Failed] Corporate State USA
Kingfisher, Saturday, Sep 20 2008, 12:53am
The past few decades have seen Corporate interests laying siege on western democracies and completely vanquishing the democratic process and representative government – Abe Lincoln’s government of the people by the people is finito! Today’s ‘democracies’ are government by the Corporations for the Corporations for the very privileged few! If you are beginning to feel uncomfortable, like a slave or chump all I can say is, “if the shoe fits ..!” (story and 3 comments)

Privatising the Pentagon
Frida Berrigan via rialator, Friday, Sep 19 2008, 9:42am
Seven years into George W. Bush's Global War on Terror, the Pentagon is embroiled in two big wars, a potentially explosive war of words with Tehran, and numerous smaller conflicts – and it is leaning ever more heavily on private military contractors to get by.
Once upon a time, soldiers did more than pick up a gun. They picked up trash. They cut hair and delivered mail. They fixed airplanes and inflated truck tires. Not anymore. All of those tasks are now the responsibility of private military corporations. In the service of the Pentagon, their employees also man computers, write software code, create integrating systems, train technicians, manufacture and service high-tech weapons, market munitions, and interpret satellite images.

You’ve got three months, Malcolm, so far so good!
finch, Thursday, Sep 18 2008, 12:50pm
We have refrained from writing stories relating to pathetic, subservient, dependent Australia, for obvious reasons -- it had promise once! However, the recent change of leadership in the opposition party was too great a temptation, especially in view of the preposterous lies and pretences that littered the new opposition leader’s opening speech. [Some explanation is required for American and international readers.] (story and 2 comments and 1 image)

Nigerian rebels attack JUGULAR OF ENEMY!
nano, Wednesday, Sep 17 2008, 11:12pm
This is not a story on a fake terrorism war that targets nothing of strategic value – such as Bin Laden’s war of convenience. The reader will note Bush’s ‘Islamic terrorists’ only target symbolic not REAL (high value) targets -- after all, the forces behind the ‘long war’ do not wish their profits to be disrupted or to lose anything of REAL value! France set to replace failed Australia as ‘manager’ of Western Pacific
barra, Wednesday, Sep 17 2008, 2:42am
We have seen Australia fail in Tonga, PNG, Vanuatu, Solomons, Fiji and of course the oil rich Timor-Leste – America and other nations view Oz’s ‘efforts’ in the region as lamentable, and rightly so! Would anyone expect any different from servile Prime Ministers, John Howard and Kevin Rudd – answer in a nutshell? (story and 2 comments and 3 images)

South American Leaders Back Morales and launch probe into Unrest
Bill Faries and Sebastian Boyd via reed, Monday, Sep 15 2008, 10:43pm
[US covert ops are failing in Central Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Pacific and Australia -- everywhere in fact. The LAWLESS, murdering, terrorist, American PIG is failing on every front from energy wars to economic (globalisation) wars. What happened to turn the tables in such a short period of time? The same modus operandi that proved successful against the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia no longer 'works,' as the experience in Georgia and Latin America highlights, but why? Wouldn't the Americans love to know; I'm not about to spell it all out -- "we're at war," remember, dubya's moronic refrain! Let's just say digital information moves faster than covert ops these days and everyone is now familiar with the ugly face of American mass murder incorporated -- BIG problem! Subverting Democracy Through Electoral Fraud
Stephen Lendman via rialator, Monday, Sep 15 2008, 9:26am
[The following article lists the secondary factors that have contributed to the demise of democracy in the 21st century. Democracy is a social phenomenon that lives or dies with the people/masses. No one can permanently steal democracy while the masses exist; however, as the article highlights it can be hijacked momentarily by criminal forces.
Regardless of whether citizens choose to actively exercise their democratic options the fact remains the will of the MAJORITY easily overrules the machinations of the minority – NEVER FORGET IT! What constantly haunts minority elites and cabals is the prospect of the people exercising their options! Ed.]

Oz dollar: another example of market manipulation
peptide, Sunday, Sep 14 2008, 11:32pm
Traders and citizens would remember the Oz dollar hitting its lowest point in history at 49c to the American -- that result did not reflect actual ‘value’ but market manipulation and hysteria! Our then treasurer Paul Keating very unwisely made a now infamous remark warning that Australia could become a “banana republic” if the economy wasn’t reformed. (story and 1 image)

He presented his credentials before President Evo Morales on October 13, 2006; but three months before his arrival in Bolivia, when he was still in Pristina fulfilling his role as head of the US mission in Kosovo, it was already being said that the new US ambassador designated by George Bush for this Andean country, Philip Goldberg, would come to take part in the separatist process that was being cultivated in the background to pierce the Bolivian regime. Drone warfare
Kingfisher, Saturday, Sep 13 2008, 11:19am
I was raised in a world where killing innocent women and children was considered the most heinous of crimes. Why are such acts tolerated today? Hundreds of thousands of children have died as a direct result of US policies and military interventions. However, it appears that in this ‘brave new world’ of Bush, Cheney and mindless ‘Paris Hiltons’ it is acceptable to kill women and children and suffer no serious consequences! Racist Australia finally grants visa to Snoop Dogg
budgie, Thursday, Sep 11 2008, 10:54pm
Gangster rapper, Mr S. Dogg, was elated after Australia finally approved his visa application to perform in the country. Much to the nation's shame, a previous application was refused by the former conservative, racist government led by, “I was raised with those values,” John Howard. Australia’s appalling record with dark skinned humanity has gained it a loathsome reputation internationally. The most recent example is the overt scapegoating/victimisation of the dark skinned Indian doctor, Mohamed Haneef. It remains to be seen how far the current PM, Kevin ‘useless eunuch’ Rudd, is willing to pursue CRIMINAL CHARGES in relation to the obvious collusion between the former PM’s office, Federal Police Chief, ‘have another drink,’ Mick Keelty and former Immigration Minister, Kevin Andrews. Former Attorney General Philip ‘anal contractionist’ Ruddock may also be implicated – it would be surprising if he isn’t! (story and 2 images)

Less Than Half the World Believes al-Qaeda Was Behind 9/11 Attacks
Joshua Holland via quill, Thursday, Sep 11 2008, 12:27am
An international poll released this week by the Project on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA) found that outside the United States, many are skeptical that al Qaeda was really responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks. Sixteen thousand people in 17 countries -- allies and adversaries in Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East -- were asked the open-ended question: "Who do you think was behind the 9/11 attacks?"

The public considered fair game by Robber Barons, Speculators and Bankers
barra, Wednesday, Sep 10 2008, 10:19pm
Government regulators once controlled the degree to which the public could be robbed by big business -- the fear of social unrest, or political repercussions were the two principal moderating factors. However, today’s public has been taught to eat shit and like it! Armed with obscene amounts of extorted cash, powerful speculators brazenly fix oil prices and the value of other commodities via unregulated speculative markets. Recent oil price rises clearly highlight the fact and expose the gambit.
