NATO: a historical inversion
nano, Tuesday, Apr 1 2008, 8:52pm
The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) was originally utilised by WWII US president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, to dismantle the British Empire – Churchill was forced to sign the empire away in exchange for American assistance in the war. So began, with considerable help from Lend-Lease, the ascendancy of the USA in world affairs. Debate among historians over whether or not Roosevelt intentionally sought to subvert Britain’s power/wealth base continues today; however, most agree that FDR detested imperialism and quite intentionally sought to dismantle (and displace) the British Empire. Ramos-Horta, take 2!
budgie, Thursday, Mar 27 2008, 8:45pm
Right on cue gentlemen! Either in response to the previous article [see link] or as a result of very bad media management, the Australian authorities have urged President Ramos-Horta to conduct another (managed) interview and lay the blame of his attempted assassination clearly on rebel leader, Afredo Reindo and his “hateful” female lawyer! But it’s a damn shame the accusation is pure conjecture or worse the result of coercion.

Ramos-Horta interviewed on ABC
budgie, Thursday, Mar 27 2008, 8:58am
An Australian current affairs program, ‘Lateline,’ featured an interview with the convalescing President of Timor-Leste last night. However, very little in the way of new information was forthcoming. Either the President, Jose Ramos-Horta, was intentionally withholding information or he has little new knowledge to offer regarding the attempt on his life.

Richard Holbrooke, back to the Balkans!
goran, Tuesday, Mar 25 2008, 10:37am
Richard Holbrooke, former US ambassador to the UN and broker of the 1995 Dayton 'peace' agreement that ‘ended’ the war in Bosnia, recently stated that the upcoming elections in Serbia would be crucial for the Serbian people -- no argument from Serbs on that point! However, his comments veiled his/America's real concerns for America’s future ‘tenure’ in the region. Serbs have no illusions regarding Holbrooke’s allegiances -- his track record speaks for itself [see pics!] (story and 1 comment and 2 images)

Internalising defeat – the enemy’s most powerful weapon

I do not wish to be too harsh in my criticisms of invaded peoples, their plight is understandable; however, there are no excuses for defeatist weeping – tears do not destroy an enemy!

“Free market” zealots bring death to America
Paul Craig Roberts via rialator, Thursday, Mar 13 2008, 7:23pm
March 12. Crude oil for April delivery hit $110 per barrel. The US dollar fell to a new low against the Euro. It now takes $1.55 to purchase one Euro. These new highs against the dollar are the ongoing story of the collapse of the US dollar as world reserve currency and corresponding collapse of American power.

Ramos-Horta and a grain of salt
Kingfisher, Wednesday, Mar 12 2008, 9:52pm
Today’s international newswire is alive with the scripted account of the ‘gunman who shot the president;’ from Ramos-Horta’s own mouth no less! Surely that should convince everyone -- the Australians and Americans are hoping. (story and 1 comment and 1 image)

British colonialism meets PNAC
Liliana Segura via reed, Tuesday, Mar 11 2008, 11:29pm
British Foreign Secretary David Miliband issued an embarrassing apology to members of Parliament last month. Despite "earlier explicit assurances" to the contrary, he admitted, two planes carrying prisoners of the U.S. "war on terror" had landed on the British-owned island of Diego Garcia in 2002 before flying to foreign territory as part of the American extraordinary rendition program. Doodle dandy out of intellectual depth in Europe
zoran, Friday, Mar 7 2008, 8:53pm
Daniel Fried, the US assistant secretary of state for European affairs, is definitely an American and has the ‘intellectual ability’ to prove it. Addressing the press in the Serbian province of Kosovo, Fried said, “[Kosovo] independence is a fact. This is a reality. History is only going to move forward!" [My emphasis]
Temporal, philosophical, historical and general intellectual incompetence aside for the moment; Fried’s staggeringly stupid comment clearly exhibits the agitation experienced in Washington over the mess it has created in the Balkans! (story and 2 comments)

Kosovo without the Lies
captain amerika, Thursday, Mar 6 2008, 9:08pm
78 days of US/NATO bombing on Yugoslavia was specifically designed to separate Kosovo from the Yugoslav/Serbian State. An oil and gas pipeline corridor planned for the ‘western’ Balkans was and is the primary factor/reason for Western intervention in the Balkans. (story and 1 image)

The EU and US rant over Kosovo
Milan, Thursday, Feb 28 2008, 1:15pm
An interesting turn of events occurred regarding the Serbian province of Kosovo. No more do we hear from the 'brave' Albanian ‘leader,’ Thaci, making declarations that HE will defend every “inch” of Kosovo – apparently he has retreated to the protection of Madeleine Albright’s skirt. Thaci is aware that if he pokes his nose from under the U.S. skirt it will get shot off! (story and 2 images)

Washington gets a [temporary] new colony in the Balkans
Sara Flounders via reed, Wednesday, Feb 27 2008, 9:53pm
In evaluating the recent "declaration of independence" by Kosovo, a province of Serbia, and its immediate recognition as a state by the U.S., Germany, Britain and France, it is important to know three things.
First, Kosovo is not gaining independence or even minimal self-government. It will be run by an appointed High Representative and bodies appointed by the U.S., European Union and NATO. An old-style colonial viceroy and imperialist administrators will have control over foreign and domestic policy. U.S. Imperialism has merely consolidated its direct control of a totally dependent colony in the heart of the Balkans.

Once were Aussies!
dingo, Thursday, Feb 21 2008, 10:23am
Gone are the days of real Australian leaders; only a few decades past Australian leaders threatened to close the American installation at Pine Gap because the Americans refused to share information or allow access to the site. The very colourful raid on ASIO ordered by the Whitlam government due to the reluctance of ASIO bureaucrats to supply information to the democratically elected Prime Minister is another memorable event. Even that miserable little Zionist, Bob Hawke, stated at the time of an official visit to Washington that Australia, though an ally and friend has its OWN OPINION and VIEW and that views of the respective nations were likely to differ radically at times – WHATEVER HAPPENED TO AUSTRALIA AND INDEPENDENT LEADERSHIP? Does Balkanization Beckon Anew?
Patrick J. Buchanan via fleet, Wednesday, Feb 20 2008, 8:11am
When the Great War comes, said old Bismarck, it will come out of "some damn fool thing in the Balkans." On June 28, 1914, Gavrilo Princip shot the Archduke and heir to the Austrian throne Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, setting in motion the train of events that led to the First World War.
In the spring of 1999, the United States bombed Serbia for 78 days to force its army out of that nation's cradle province of Kosovo. The Serbs were fighting Albanian separatists of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). And we had no more right to bomb Belgrade than the Royal Navy would have had to bombard New York in our Civil War.

The Australian Position
finch, Tuesday, Feb 19 2008, 12:26pm
In contrast to the Australian Foreign Minister’s ‘yezz boss’ attitude to the Americans, Helen Clark, New Zealand PM, has joined other nations in not formally recognising the illegal secession of Kosovo. Notwithstanding Smith’s early show of subservience we are about to be treated to an even greater exhibition of servility from the new Rudd Labor government! The Australian Foreign Minister, Stephen Smith, is currently rummaging through his wardrobe looking for his ornate, formal dress kneepads in preparation for the visit of the American Defence Secretary, Robert Gates! Kosovo: fools rush in
Kingfisher, Sunday, Feb 17 2008, 8:04pm
Former Australian Foreign Minister to the Hawke-Keating governments, Gareth Evans -- a man with much to hide regarding his complicity in the cover-up of the Balibo five murders -- today displayed his continuing infatuation with his own reflection in the pond of NATO/EU dreams! Evans, who is divorced from everything but the most myopic of views, expressed an opinion so completely divorced from reality one wonders whether the International Crisis Group (ICG) that now employs him, is in crisis itself! Kosovo calamity undermines Europe’s security
nano, Saturday, Feb 16 2008, 9:56am
Most of us are familiar with the almost universally known adage, “a million wrongs do not make a right;” we are also familiar with the concept of shared criminality, most popularly depicted as a mafia leader demanding that every member of his group put a bullet into the body of a victim. In this way the most sordid and heinous of all criminal bonds is forged; all participants share in the guilt of murder! (story and 3 comments)

The Hilton bombing and the Assassination of Alfredo Reinado
barra, Friday, Feb 15 2008, 7:58am
‘What is this shit,’ is a common exclamatory remark Aussies are apt to make when confronted with an obvious farce, fabrication, con or ruse? The latest criminal bungle of Australian occupation forces in Timor-Leste almost matches the effort of the Hilton bombing in ’78 [see link.] (story and 1 image)
