Bringing it home: Oz cowboys murder Iraqi Christian women

national / social/political / commentary

Statistics and figures are sterile indicators; it is blood that most effectively conveys reality for human beings. Who gives a shit if over one million innocent civilians have lost their lives in Iraq if we can’t see it or feel it? Stats and figures are emotively denuded and Iraq is a very distant land? Well, today the slaughter of innocents in Iraq has been served up on Oz breakfast tables. An Australian owned security firm has murdered two Iraqi Christian women for failing to heed warnings to stop their vehicle. It should be noted the IRAQI women frequently utilised this IRAQI road and complied with IRAQI law. Do foreigners have a right to roam wherever they please and determine who should live or die? Is this the ‘liberation’ of Iraq that John Howard sells to the Oz public or is this the stark reality of a nation reduced by coalition forces to a state wherein mercenaries, cowboys, thieves and murderers determine who should live or die?

The anniversary of the Bali bombings is approaching and a debate is raging in Oz over the double standards displayed by the federal government and the opposition regarding the death penalty. Neither party has handled the issue properly. It seems that screaming for the blood of the Bali bombers is perceived by both major parties as possessing political capital. However, both the government and the opposition are jeopardising young Australian lives with their idiotic, amoral stance – it seems that political opportunism is more important to Howard and Rudd than the lives of young Aussies in foreign jails! The population has been well served by these politicians who have inadvertently exposed their thoroughly despicable and scurrilous natures.

We cannot credibly accuse Asians of barbarism if we unambiguously support the execution of the demented Bali bombers while pleading for the lives of others who face the death penalty.

The foreign affairs shadow spokesperson, Robert McClelland is absolutely correct in denouncing the death penalty and citing the government's opportunistic, hypocritical behaviour in relation to the Bali bombers and the ‘selective application’ of capital punishment. Howard and Rudd are in every sense morally and legally wrong on the issue.

The Australian people are fortunate indeed to have witnessed the true character of these two abhorrent, little, CONSERVATIVE, creeps vying for the office of PM. It remains to be seen which party adopts a principled rather than a political approach regarding the Australian mercenaries who murdered two innocent Iraqi women.
