text What’s So Funny about Peace, Love and Understanding? Elizabeth DiNovella via rialator, Saturday, May 12 2007, 11:10pm
When it was announced that the Dalai Lama was coming to Madison in May, a few of my friends snatched up the pricey tickets right away. I had heard the Dalai Lama speak five years ago during his last visit, and it was so difficult to hear him that I decided to stay out of the ticket-buying frenzy this time around. But when a friend of mine (a Maoist no less!) called me last Friday morning to offer me free tickets to the public talk that afternoon, I couldn’t resist.

Howard and Jones image Racist Prime Minister of Oz sinks to new Low barra, Tuesday, Apr 10 2007, 2:00pm
The Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, has come out in support of a known public toilet loitering homosexual racist. Alan Jones, a controversial toilet loiterer and talkback radio host was recently found to be in breach of the broadcasting code. Another dubious and prominent character, John Singleton, known for his past links with Heroin importing former grade footballers and the CIA Nugan Hand Bank, has also expressed his support for the toilet-loitering, sexual deviant broadcaster. [I do not wish to labour a point but Jones was arrested and charged in London with two counts of “outraging public decency by behaving in an indecent manner under the Westminster by-laws”.] (story and 2 comments and 2 images)

text A Handful of Lunatics nano, Saturday, Jan 20 2007, 6:05pm
As the world races to nuclear confrontation in the Middle East the mass media is remarkably quiet on the topic. What is the latest news from the Persian Gulf? Confirmation of the reported build-up of Iranian troops on the Iraqi border required. Kurdish, Turkish and U.S. troop movements are strangely omitted from popular newswires. Follow-up coverage is a thing of the past, what is the latest from the Chinese leadership? THE PUBLIC DEMAND TO BE INFORMED AS IT IS THE PUBLIC WHO WILL DO THE DYING!

exactly.jpg image Bush Challenges Opposition -- A Response! Cleaves Editorial Team, Saturday, Jan 13 2007, 10:53am
In his daily radio address, George W Bush challenged those who oppose his insane route to oblivion, to ‘put up or shut up’. “To oppose everything while proposing nothing is irresponsible," he said, “offer an alternative”. In view of the fact that U.S. Democrats are unable to effectively deal with the situation, we formally and directly accept this challenge and remind Bush that we are aware that this response will be read by him and his neo-cons; indeed, we have been aware for some time that Bush is a regular reader of this site as indeed is Rice and others. There is no avoiding this response! (story and 2 comments and 1 image)

apocalypto2.jpg image Apocalypto: The Cinematic Logic of Genocide Juan Santos via rialator, Monday, Dec 18 2006, 8:39am
Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto is not a mere adventure tale, it’s not just another excruciatingly brutal portrayal of apocalyptic violence for its own sake, and the Village Voice is dead wrong when it says that unlike Braveheart and The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto is “unburdened by nationalist or religious piety,” — that it's “pure, amoral sensationalism.” (story and 1 image)

BANKSY in Palestine -- balloon girl image Divisionism is Death finch, Wednesday, Sep 20 2006, 6:52am
A well-known method of subjugation utilised by conquerors and rulers alike is, “divide and conquer”; this strategy applies equally in times of war and peace. It may surprise many but this method remains the principal means of social control in today’s western societies. The primary divisive structure today is the (separate, ‘closed-door’) nuclear family and the principal divided unit is the psychically isolated, competitive individual. [It should be noted that the ‘individual’, as distinct from the group, is a relatively recent social creation.] (story and 2 images)

Ned Kelly -- 60,000 Australians signed petition to spare his life. image National Identity Crisis dingo, Sunday, Sep 17 2006, 5:43am
Australia takes the idiot news of the week award once again. ‘Onya Oz for not laughing the Prime Minister, John Howard, and the imbecile leader of the opposition, Kim Beazley, out of Parliament and office for their ridiculous and illogical attempts to gain political advantage by exploiting the underlying racism and cringe mentality in the local ‘culture’. text The Concept of Innocence in Today’s World finch, Monday, Jul 17 2006, 7:20pm
This short paper does not pretend to a thorough analysis, however, it is hoped that the few indications would suffice both to verify assertions and to indicate a rich direction for further research.

Innocence implies a lack of guilt or blamelessness; the images humans readily associate with the concept of innocence are those of infants, suckling babes, children and the newborn. A species tends to identify and place value on itself. In contrast to instinctive emotions we have the superimposition of cultural values/demands. Religion is the traditional repository and medium of constructed/cultural values. A cursory analysis would reveal that cultural values are not usually compatible with strong instinctive emotions. The value placed on the lives of defenceless children, infants and the newborn will be the criteria utilised to easily prove our assertions. (story and 2 comments)

Rosa Cherie image A Preponderance of Rosas Inana, Tuesday, Jul 4 2006, 10:48pm
This piece was prompted by an image of the 'Rosa Cherie' published in the Guardian International Newspaper a couple of weeks ago.

It indicated a full colour photograph of the Rosa Cherie, a new hybrid developed for the Birmingham flower show that looked like a vulva. It was juxtaposed with an image of a mitre, indicating the ongoing Episcopalian schism over a female bishopric.

Cherie Blair was photographed veiled and in conversation with Benedict the 16th precisely a week before, to discuss the decline in the European birth Rate. At the time of seeing both these images and the positioning of this woman as some sort of a Rosa Mundi, an example to western women of the stability of the capitalist ethos, in the light of her spouse prosecuting an illegal war against a soverign nation and giving conscience and voice to U.S imperialism, I felt the need to protest. Cardinal Pell image The Cardinal and the Bondi Boy cleaves, Sunday, Jun 25 2006, 1:47pm
Just prior to the appointment of Ratzinger to Pontiff, I happened to cross the path of Cardinal George Pell in Pitt Street, Sydney, early one evening. I couldn’t help (politely) inquiring of him whether he was a man of God. He responded, much to my amazement, “I don’t know about, ‘man of God’, I am a Catholic Priest!” Regardless of anything previously stated by various commentators, his answer to me was forthright, candid and accurate (by his own admission). I was somewhat disarmed by his candour and manner, which was in contrast to his bearing and physical stature, he is a huge man around 6’ 5”, I would guess. (story and 1 image)

text Youth Suicide and Howard’s Australia Reid, Tuesday, Jun 13 2006, 1:51pm
Thank you for your article (link below) on Howard and particularly for highlighting his disregard for Australian youth. I am appalled by his attitude to young Australians. Australia has one of the highest youth suicide rates in the developed world and little wonder; the short-term interests of corporate profit, crushing taxation laws and the introduction of ‘guest workers’ have stolen the future from the majority of our youth. Our youth now experience ever-increasing difficulty obtaining work skills needed for their survival. (story and 1 comment)

text Behind the Lies of the Australian Prime Minister finn, Sunday, Jun 11 2006, 11:30am
It’s not difficult to arrive at an accurate assessment of the present Oz leadership, the government of John Howard. Love Howard or not, he has the local population eating his lies like it was manna from heaven. Howard’s treasurer recently announced that the Oz government was out of debt, in view of a 'national' foreign debt of $493 billion, the highest ever recorded by an astronomical ‘mile’, the announcement of the elimination of 'government' debt becomes meaningless double-talk. But which figure does the public prefer to embrace? The lie of course, it’s far more comforting – the media’s emphasis on the treasurer’s remarks at the expense of the horrendous crippling debt is not unintentional.

text “The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is his name.” fish, Tuesday, May 16 2006, 7:09am
Moses identifies his God in Exodus 15:3 – interesting description to say the least. Moses is either a liar or his God is a bloodthirsty God of War. There are numerous references in the text confirming without doubt that the God of the Old Testament is a murdering sociopath suffering from an unquenchable blood lust. Numerous verses and passages offer incontestable proof to that effect but there are none better than the story of Jericho. Jericho stands as the oldest record of premeditated genocide. Kill everyone regardless; men, women, children and suckling infants. (story and 6 comments)

text Life against death finch, Saturday, Mar 18 2006, 3:27am
The (coordinated) international protests and demonstrations against the war in Iraq indicate that people are unified in their fight against oppression, division, exploitation and violence. The way of the people is the way of peace, the majority decision is always for Peace, as the majority are aware that other options result in destruction if not annihilation. In contrast to the way of peace is the violence of the minority; the few that would wage war for the benefit of the few. It becomes plain to all, regardless of nationality, that ruling minorities are corrupt and do not serve the interests of the majority.

text Austria, Hitler and Howard’s Australia nano, Sunday, Feb 26 2006, 2:38pm
Pauline Hanson recently announced on news radio that her political views have been “vindicated”; she cited the overt racist attitudes of John Howard and Peter Costello as proof of her claim. Who could deny it? Hanson’s imprisonment on trumped-up charges was an act of political assassination instigated by Howard but executed by his then errand boy, Tony Abbott. Hanson’s trial and subsequent imprisonment effectively eliminated her and her party from the Australian political landscape; mainstream racist ideology was re-established in its rightful home, the white Australian conservative ultra-right Liberal Party of Howard! The world watches Australia take a giant leap backwards as Howard continues to divide the nation. (story and 1 comment)

text A Strategy Primer Ibis, Saturday, Jan 14 2006, 2:53pm
Social cohesion has never been more fragile than at present. Developing an effective survival strategy in an age of bankrupt ideologies is a challenging but not impossible task. All known political ideologies have failed or are failing (including capitalism). The lack of viable alternatives betrays a 'whipped' and beaten Western population not a shortage of real options. text Converge on the Capital cleaves, Wednesday, Dec 28 2005, 3:46am
In the recent past an American grandmother demonstrating against the tyrant Bush, held a placard as she marched on the Capital, it read, “The Road to Hell is lined with Bushes”. It is now evident that this grandmother (who puts younger Americans to shame) was exhibiting prophetic or intuitive insight. In that period Bush was relatively tame. This American woman and true patriot is an inspiration to us all.

text Bush’s Xmas Tantrum cleaves, Saturday, Dec 24 2005, 4:11am
Bush is furious that patriots, who continue to hold the values and laws of the USA inviolate, leaked the story of illegal bugging and surveillance to the media. The American Fuhrer’s indignation equals that of his historical Nazi counterpart. How dare someone expose the ‘commander in chief’ for the criminal that he really is!
