Be careful what you wish for, Kevin Rudd!
by peptide Wednesday, May 13 2009, 11:34am
national / social/political / commentary

It wasn’t too long ago a disillusioned Australian nation elected a new leader with the hope the new leader would represent the electorate NOT the elites the previous PM served! However, it soon became apparent the new leader, Kevin 07, was just another servile lackey walking in the subservient footsteps of the previous leader, John Howard. The Australian population was sorely disappointed, to say the least.

Rudd has been called a ‘non-event;’ ‘the leader you have when you don’t have a leader;’ ‘a do nothing Prime Minister;’ ‘rudderless Rudd,’ ‘photo shoot Rudd;’ ‘show pony Rudd -- I’m sure you get the gist. Rudd is a ‘bells and whistles,’ man of appearances but NO SUBSTANCE. The public prayed and hoped that Rudd would finally DO SOMETHING and GOVERN the nation. But reality dictated he could do neither; Rudd is a walking national tragedy.

Advisers to the new PM were aware that public sentiment was turning against their man and feared he would become a ‘one-term wonder;’ so in order to prevent that occurrence they set about trying to give a non-event the appearance of an event! Needless to say they didn’t succeed, people know the difference between charades and reality.

Drastic action was required, Rudd had to make his presence felt or he would face early defeat.

The people are now sorry they elected Rudd and the reason is not because he did nothing it’s because he FINALLY did something!

In response to the global economic recession, Rudd’s handlers instructed him to spend like a person with bi-polar disorder on a high, and Rudd took to the task with a zeal that surprised many. The result is the nation has now accumulated – in record time -- a debt that equals that of many underdeveloped, third world nations. Bankers and those flush with liquidity now control the destiny of Australia; the national debt is so great that it threatens to oppress generations of Australians not yet born! Rudd has finally made his mark in Australian history; he has become the prime minister that hocked the ENTIRE nation. CRUSHING NATIONAL DEBT is now incorporated in the national psyche, one which already ‘boasted’ racism, shameless cowardice and spectacular grovelling to American regimes.

However, it seems Rudd has little chance of pushing his debt slavery and other policy changes through the upper house. Commentators are already referring to the prospect of a double dissolution, which would force an early election due to blocked supply. Furthermore, many believe that this prospect was intentionally planned by Rudd’s advisers.

In view of internet censorship policies; making Australia a nuclear target by triggering an arms race in the region; spineless compliance with America’s demands to deploy our troops in Afghanistan; creating a MASSIVE NATIONAL DEBT, Rudd's handlers seem to be playing with fire. It appears they have overlooked the distinct possibility that skilled and EXPERIENCED former treasurer Peter Costello may lead the opposition if an early election is called, whao!

Facing its abysmal record of incompetence, inaction, bungling and 'wild card' prospects, the Rudd government could very easily lose a forced election. It would nevertheless deserve such an outcome! In fact, WE DARE YOU to force a DD, Kevin, you pathetic, no talent, little narcissist!

We hope and pray for the opportunity to boot you out on your ear, you no account, Corporate LACKEY – go for it, Kevin, please!

Smith blunder: [Secret] Uranium export plans tabled
by ABC staff via reed - ABC Wednesday, May 13 2009, 9:05pm

Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen 'knee pads' Smith has accidentally tabled secret details of Government plans to export more uranium to China. [Insert added]

The confidential list of Australia's treaty negotiations with other countries includes details of negotiations between Australia and China about boosting exports of uranium from BHP Billiton's Olympic Dam mine in South Australia.

It also lists the current status of negotiations between Australia and Indonesia on a new defence treaty.

"Indonesia has provided a first draft of the proposed agreement and Australia is currently preparing a counter-draft document," says the document.

The document states the contents are potentially sensitive to Australia's relationship with other countries and should not be made public.

It was tabled with Mr Smith's authority in both houses of federal Parliament on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for Mr Smith says the document was tabled in error. The Government says it is contacting countries affected by the accidental release.

BHP Billiton plans

The document says DFAT officials attended talks in Beijing in January this year, on BHP Billiton's proposal to send uranium-infused copper concentrate to China from its Olympic Dam mine.

"The nuclear transfer agreement is focussed primarily on supply of uranium in uranium ore concentrates," it says.

"Annex D of the nuclear transfer agreement allows for extraction of uranium from other ores and concentrates (e.g. copper concentrates), but only for non-nuclear purposes."

The document says Australia's nuclear transfer agreement with China would have to be amended to make sure the uranium is properly accounted for.

"An amendment or supplementary agreement is required to ensure Australian uranium is satisfactorily accounted for during the extraction process, and that any uranium extracted becomes nuclear material subject to the provisions of the nuclear transfer agreement," it says.

BHP Billiton has been pushing for more uranium exports to China as part of its plan to expand the Olympic Dam mine.

Over 11 years, the company wants to take Australia's biggest underground mine and make it one of the world's biggest open pit mines.

It says production of copper, gold and uranium will rise six-fold.

Earlier this month the company released the long-awaited draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the mine.

After a public consultation period, the plans then go to the Northern Territory and South Australian governments for approval.

While the final say on the company's expansion plans will rest with federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett, Resources Minister Martin Ferguson is on record as saying he has no concerns about China expanding its use of uranium for nuclear power generation.

"We will continue to export as much of our commodities we can, including uranium, to countries who are interested in purchasing our commodities," he said last month.

"But obviously with respect to the issue of uranium, there are very clear demands from the Government... which guarantees the safe use of Australian uranium."
