The Alice Report – when a nation takes Leave

Oz nous has gone on holiday it would seem; the Prime Minister this week denied, on national television, all reports and accusations that he is dishonest! People arose from comas at the announcement, my demented granny who hasn’t spoken or reacted to the outside world in years, leapt out of her invalid chair and screamed, “shoot the little war criminal!” People all over the nation choked on their dinners but the best is yet to come. Justice Jeffrey Spender, presiding over the Haneef visa case in the Federal Court, referred to the timing of the Immigration Minister cancelling Dr. Haneef’s visa only hours after a Queensland court had granted him bail as, “suspicious,” really! Most people would have referred to it as OUTRAGEOUS but Federal courts are anal by nature.
Perhaps a little background should’ve been offered to the court. Kevin Andrews, fresh from his FAILED attempt as minister for Industrial Relations was so eager to please and regain some stature and credibility he was FALLING OVER HIMSELF to show his boss, John Howard, what a good little minister he really was! But exuberance is apt to neglect small but important details like TIMING! Yep, someone forgot the most crucial aspect of the whole orchestrated beat-up of Bin Ladens in the bathroom -- timing is everything, especially when waging polarised political campaigns.
Few would associate the now infamous statement, “you’re either with us or you’re with the terrorists,” as the point of departure or the introduction of the era of “wedge” or the politics of polarisation and divisionism. The cost of accepting this inane statement has been extreme, the world forfeited its common sense – we now have to prove in courts of law that the sky is blue. Once it was a simple matter of, 'lift your bloody chin and take a look!' Now we have, “the chronology is suspicious” – SUSPICIOUS! The fact is, it’s dog’s balls OBVIOUS!
“Who do you trust not to increase interest rates,” or inflict the most oppressive debt economy on the people this nation has ever seen? Price hikes have now hit the most basic commodities, fruits and vegetables and other basic foodstuffs. But we continue to hear the voice of one whimpering in the wilderness, “John Howard is the best prime minister we’ve ever had” – if that statement applies in the most minimal sense to Howard, by comparison, it would make John Curtin GOD!
But let’s take a look at Howard’s mates, CEOs and corporate directors, for whom WE are expected to decrease our real wages; their wages, in searing contrast, are counted in the tens and hundreds of millions per annum! What do they care if vegetables are $10/kilo. Yep, Howard is no doubt the best Prime Minister any CEO or corporate director ever had, damn shame that 99.99% of the population are not CEOs or directors! The profits from the natural wealth of the nation is stolen by transnationals while we suffer HUGE disparities and inequities but don’t forget YOU gave Howard both houses of Parliament; the means to flush Australian values and fair play down the toilet – AND HE WASTED NO TIME DOING JUST THAT!
‘Honest John,’ Hicks and Haneef are all in the news today!
But just in -- one from the little PEOPLE. The indigenous Fijian leader, Frank Bainimarama, has assured the foreign ministers of Oz and NZ that he will definitely be attending the Pacific Leaders forum to be held in Tonga later this year. At a time when indigenous peoples across the Pacific are asserting their rights – viva Timor-Leste! John Howard has embarked on the most severe form of colonial oppression of blacks seen since the 19th century in Australia. Johnny is hoping to send a clear message to all dark-skinned people that the white race has an inherent right to assume authority over blacks and other races of colour – we read you loud and clear, you racist, war criminal, Corporate lackey – is this really the message the Australian people wish to send to the world?
The Australian people had better start looking at the enormous imbalance in the distribution of OUR natural wealth and the damage Howard is doing to our international reputation. Retrogressive, racist colonial attitudes have long since been abandoned by every other nation in the world.
It may be time to grow up Oz; but it can never be done with servile types like Howard or Rudd at the helm! Tiny Island States in the Pacific and various other Island nations have sovereignty and full independence but Australia doesn’t! Who would have thought that a leader could imbue his own cowardice onto an entire nation?
Australians have absolutely nothing to rejoice about at this point in time!
How about we just take Howard and his front bench, Rudd and his opposition front bench outside and shoot the bloody lot of them? Perhaps then we could get on with it!
