Christmas double-speak for the masses
budgie, Sunday, Dec 23 2007, 9:29pm
Let’s start with a couple of whoppers so the moronic masses are able to comprehend. First we have the former Yugoslavia and the show trial of its leader Slobodan Milosevic – now deceased. I’m sure we remember the Hague war crimes tribunal and accusations that Milosevic was responsible for thousands of civilian deaths. This was to be NATO’s and America’s justification for reducing a single nation to a number of fractured, tiny, POWERLESS ‘states,’ which have since been subsumed by Western Europe – that wasn’t the plan, was it? The Burden of Guilt: Tony Blair converts to Catholicism
barra, Sunday, Dec 23 2007, 10:40am
Murderers carry an exceedingly heavy burden, how much greater the burden for mass murderers? Whether or not Blair’s conversion is the result of a pressing need to relieve the pain of his inner torment or is related to other factors – his wife is a devout RC – the guilt factor is difficult to dismiss. The US Dollar: The Long Farewell?
Gwynne Dyer via reed, Saturday, Dec 22 2007, 9:02am
It's just straws in the wind so far. India's Ministry of Culture announces that foreign tourists can no longer pay in dollars when visiting the Taj Mahal and other heritage sites; they have to pay in good, hard rupees.

Rice: wishful thinking or divorced from reality?
cveta, Friday, Dec 21 2007, 10:16am
A report by David Gollust of VOA makes extraordinary reading given the current situation in Kosovo. Surely not even the rabid Condi Rice would make such emphatic and unrealistic statements as “Serbia and Kosovo will never be part of the same country again, and all those concerned should work for a stable outcome in the Balkans based on that reality.” Professional politicians never say never, Condi, nor do they dictate “reality” in situations where they only have a tenuous toehold, as is the case with America in the Balkans. The ‘toe’ to which I refer is the precariously situated military base, Bondsteel. (story and 1 comment and 2 images)

The time it takes a falling nation to disintegrate
gan, Thursday, Dec 20 2007, 9:15pm
The amount of money America splashes around in aid, grants, loans, bribes and expenditure is astronomical. All things being unequal, America is spending what it does not have; the result of course is a dollar that plummets when other nations decide they cannot afford to maintain their dollar reserves. The drunken sailor economics of Bush and his fellow incompetents has already killed the American economy; the nation just hasn’t hit the ground yet!

WATER TORTURE: American DENIAL and PATHOLOGY
finch, Wednesday, Dec 19 2007, 8:52am
Debate rages in the US over the torture policies of the Bush regime and its many other criminal activities. Nevertheless, the House of Reps recently approved $70 billion for continuing war expenditure, which CLEARLY INDICATES THAT AMERICANS support the Bush regime’s criminal activities.

Naxalites indicate viable future strategy
major mitchell, Tuesday, Dec 18 2007, 2:18pm
The landless peasants, tribal people and Dalit (untouchable) underclass of India and Nepal have been exploited, oppressed and treated with disdain for centuries, but no longer, they have taken up arms and are fighting their oppressors with a vengeance. They have successfully targeted and killed hundreds of their oppressors; feudal landlords, industrialists and the mega-wealthy. The astounding result of this strategy has been a power sharing deal in the government of Nepal – a remarkable success!

Murdoch press: whole lotta ‘shining’ goin’ on
budgie, Sunday, Dec 16 2007, 9:27am
A sure indicator of second rate journalism is plagiarism, ‘line dancing,’ (following someone else’s lead) and repetitive headline expressions. In the past 24 hours a substantial amount of “shining” has emanated from the Murdoch stable of second rate journos, drunks, face-slapping slags and sycophants – time for a serious staff review Rupert, your Oz contingent is unravelling! The Murdoch media praises show pony, Kevin Rudd
nano, Saturday, Dec 15 2007, 9:55am
Rupert Murdoch’s show pony, Kevin Rudd, is the focus of foaming praise in the local mass media. One report described Rudd as almost walking on water and appearing taller than his actual diminutive height, another Murdoch rag described him as “shining” – give us a break! But ain’t it a shame Kevin ignored the issue of five murdered Australians; shirking the responsibility of bringing the Balibo murderers to justice is noted -- another 'fearless' leader in the Howard tradition! But our Kevin was made for prancing and the Bali summit afforded the perfect opportunity for Murdoch's new show pony to strut his stuff on the international stage. Our Kevin didn't disappoint, he proved to be a very well trained (Shetland) pony indeed -- his owners should be very pleased! (story and 1 comment and 2 images)

Going through the motions
dada, Friday, Dec 14 2007, 11:08am
Why bother or fuss, the result of US elections is a forgone conclusion, it’s “back to the future” with the plutocrat’s choice, Murdoch anointed, Hillary Clinton! Does anyone really have any doubts? The status quo is safeguarded with a change of face. Hillary’s foreign policy is indistinguishable from the neo-con's. It’s a “Bilderberg” (by invitation only) world -- the name under which today’s plutocrats determine the destiny of their shaky world! (story and 2 images)

Kosovo independence: an attempt to weaken Russia
peptide, Thursday, Dec 13 2007, 9:14am
Western powers led by America have been marshalled to support a unilateral declaration of independence by Muslim secessionists in Kosovo sometime in the Spring. Moves by western powers to illegally secure Kosovo’s independence exhibit a sense of urgency and importance, which the tiny Serbian province clearly does not warrant! What lies behind America’s frantic need to support secessionist moves by a loathed Muslim criminal and terrorist organisation? (story and 1 comment and 1 image)

The Law of Inverse Proportions
budgie, Tuesday, Dec 11 2007, 9:54pm
The title refers to a sociological law, the crowd or mob mind; the larger the mob the lower the intelligence ratio until we get to national levels where the intelligence of a nation measured by its population is in the minuses. How demonstrably true especially in developed nations where literacy levels should indicate otherwise. In America, arguably the most developed western nation, the national IQ is clearly in the 100 unit minuses. (story and 2 comments)

Oz Labor swings into ‘positive action’
dingo, Tuesday, Dec 11 2007, 10:08am
Labor has sent a clear message of gratitude to the Australian people for placing them in power. The first action of Labor was to lift bans on the production of GM crops in NSW and Victoria – thanks suckers! The overwhelming majority of Australian people are clearly against GM crops and GM foods entering our food chain but that ‘minor fact’ hasn’t deterred our ‘representative’ Labor governments! Tit for Tat: Merkel and Mugabe
yarra, Monday, Dec 10 2007, 9:35pm
Germany summoned Zimbabwe’s charge d’affaires to the foreign office for a Teutonic dressing down after the African nation’s foreign minister called Angela Merkel a “Nazi remnant” and “racist of the first order!” "It was made clear in strong terms that remarks like the ones made about the chancellor are in no way tolerable," a German spokesman said. Furthermore, if Mugabe or any of his government representatives continue to slander the right-wing, Bush-loving, Merkel, Germany promises to invade, concentrate and gas the sub-human African population. Mugabe and his ministers will be reduced to soap and their skin made into lampshades! (story and 2 images)

Parochial thinking Global Realities
finn, Monday, Dec 10 2007, 12:10pm
Most people would think it ‘only natural’ to be more concerned with issues that effect their personal social environment than with issues involved in a mutually effective global reality. However, parochial thinking in a global world is a recipe for disaster, as America and Israel have recently discovered.

Bush's Reaction to the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) reveals him as World Warmonger No. 1
Sherwood Ross via rialator, Sunday, Dec 9 2007, 11:30pm
