The Politics of Paralysis
yarra, Friday, Oct 5 2007, 12:15pm
The outstanding feature of economic rationalism and laissez-faire capitalism is the LACK of an IDEAL, in other words to what end do WE SUPPORT these rapacious, voracious and highly polluting economic ideologies? What is the ideal of economically based systems and what is the cost? The answer to the first question is a negative – no ideal exists – the process itself substitutes for the ideal and that is a very dangerous situation. The ‘God’ of laissez-faire capitalists and economic rationalists is the rampant process of consumption itself! We are all aware that the principal causative factor for global warming, climate chaos, ecological destruction and the mass extinctions of plant and animal life is POLLUTION! (story and 1 image)

Dying embers
Kingfisher, Thursday, Oct 4 2007, 12:03pm
The Howard racist government has plainly lost the plot as is clearly evident in the announcements and statements of Immigration Minister, Kevin ‘no Africans here’ Andrews and Howard enforcer, Bill ‘yellow peril’ Heffernan. But the overt racism of these two ideological dinosaurs has not delivered the final deathblow to the Howard antiquated government. That dubious honour goes to Malcolm ‘rice balls’ Turnbull, who has so ‘expertly’ committed personal political suicide (over his handling of the red-hot Gunns, pulp mill issue) the flow-over effect threatens to drag his party under with him! For the want of a Tasmanian marginal seat the whole party was lost -- and it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving bunch of incompetent cowards. (story and 2 images)

Loaded Language and Loaded Guns
Charles Sullivan via rialator, Wednesday, Oct 3 2007, 10:33pm
One can no longer understand US governmental policy on the basis of conventional language or traditional wisdom. Language itself and its long-established meanings were long ago twisted and distorted in order to deceive the people. Now war is peace and terror and occupation is liberation. In order to make sense of what is happening, it is important to understand everything within the context of a specific economic philosophy, and the distorted capitalist system that spawned it.

Kismo, Wednesday, Oct 3 2007, 11:37am
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has dropped its actions against subsidiary arms of Google with the view to target the parent company in the U.S. The change in tack occurred after Google U.S. accepted responsibility for its subsidiary arm in Australia. (story and 1 image)

The Confetti Elections of Modern Democracies
barra, Tuesday, Oct 2 2007, 1:32pm
Crucial issues affecting national viability/welfare are always sacrificed in favour of spin, propaganda and beat-ups during the ‘free and fair’ elections of Western democracies. The idiotic attempts of highly paid consultants/propagandists to snatch victory with tinsel tricks have not only become counter-productive but are now threatening national viability/security. TODAY, THE FUTURE VIABILITY OF NATIONS IS AT STAKE! Allow that FACT/REALITY to sink into the waffle of the spin-soaked minds of the public! (story and 1 image)

The [U.S.] Administration’s plan for Iran
Seymour M. Hersh via reed, Monday, Oct 1 2007, 2:40pm
The New Yorker -- October 8, 2007 -- In a series of public statements in recent months, President Bush and members of his Administration have redefined the war in Iraq, to an increasing degree, as a strategic battle between the United States and Iran. “Shia extremists, backed by Iran, are training Iraqis to carry out attacks on our forces and the Iraqi people,” Bush told the national convention of the American Legion in August. “The attacks on our bases and our troops by Iranian-supplied munitions have increased. . . The Iranian regime must halt these actions. And, until it does, I will take actions necessary to protect our troops.” He then concluded, to applause, “I have authorized our military commanders in Iraq to confront Tehran’s murderous activities.”

No Glass Darker
teepee, Monday, Oct 1 2007, 11:51am
When the Law and other state institutions fail the people it is always Art that comes to the rescue. The power inherent in Art is beyond estimation. When thousands of words fail to deliver, an image strikes its target with an accuracy that weapons-makers can only envy. The following image of the military crackdown in Burma needs no explanation; it spills over and continues to haunt via its stirring of the collective conscience. All unjust, criminal States are indicted by a few strokes of the brush and scratches of the pen. (story and 3 images)

Oz Leadership Disgrace
finch, Sunday, Sep 30 2007, 1:37pm
The constantly deceived, insular, myopic, parochial Australian population cannot be held entirely responsible for living in a dream world regarding their reputation in the world today. Colonialist, racist, pea-hearted, scurrying little rodent coward leaders earn reputations for us all whether we like it or not! These reputations are difficult to overcome, it took John Howard and the CONSERVATIVES who support him, 11 years to drag our good name into the racist, cowardly, cringing, dependent gutter, and it will take some time to regain our former status in the world. Democracy, my arse!
Kit, Friday, Sep 28 2007, 2:26pm
Consider this, you duped, deluded, dunces! Oz has a population of 20 million yet the government has spent (since ’96) 1.5 BILLION of OUR taxpayers dollars on ADVERTISING alone – specifically for purposes of maintaining their hold on POWER! This situation raises many questions regarding the ‘free and fair’ society in which we live, not least the FARCE that democracy has become in Australia. How is it fair if the costs of informing/reaching the people amount to the above obscene figure – who is able to afford these sums? Of course the incumbent government by taxing us into oblivion; however, outside interests (that control our ‘democracy’) are easily able to afford these sums. The interests to which I refer are known to us all, the TAX MINIMISING Super Corporations plundering our resources and boasting profits of tens of billions per year, while returning virtually nothing to our society. The navel-gazing Anglicans of Oz
fish, Thursday, Sep 27 2007, 1:09pm
All the great religious reformers of history are known for taking religion to the streets, as is occurring in Burma today. Taking their cue or lead from their founders some believers display the bravery and fearlessness required to meet life’s challenges today! The Buddha and Christ were men of social REVOLUTION, who, when faced with corruption and injustice, launched peaceful attacks on the ruling elites of their time and effected lasting social change as is evident thousands of years after their initial campaigns. Know that mastering the 7th is the key to Final Victory. Know ‘that’ which prevents continuity of consciousness and totality of experience. Bush Makes Mockery of UN Declaration of Human Rights in NY Speech

Ahmadinejad and Rice contest title for World’s most absurd Liar/Denier
finch, Tuesday, Sep 25 2007, 1:46pm
[Jewish] Holocaust denier, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Iraq holocaust denier, Condoleezza Rice, exchanged accusations and claims this week in what appeared to be the world championship of reality denial. The extermination of approximately six million Jews during the Nazi holocaust is based on historical evidence or the record. The record can be tested for inaccuracies but denying the Jewish holocaust labels the denier not only a clown and idiot but divorced from reality. It would be extremely difficult to locate a Statesman or woman more bereft than Ahmadinejad, that is until the U.S. Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, opened her championship winning mouth! A Kalashnikov for Christmas
Captain, Monday, Sep 24 2007, 2:32pm
Today, the USA is without peer as the foremost terrorist organisation in the world. We should have known! Early efforts of two atomic bomb drops on civilian targets in Japan and carpet bombings of two million Indo-Chinese civilians have been challenged with the continuing mayhem and destruction in Iraq, which today ‘boasts’ a holocaust in progress as good as any other in history. Over one million dead civilians, four million displaced persons and a nation in ruin. Donald Rumsfeld was right for once in his demented life when he stated plainly to the world that U.S. invaders (military) were NOT nation builders – hardly surprising!

Living Heart
cleaves, Sunday, Sep 23 2007, 11:52pm
A mendicant’s first responsibility is to achieve quiescence his second is to alleviate the suffering of his fellow human beings. In every sense a Buddhist engages life and human society. Quiescence delivers Peace and from that great storehouse a mendicant is able to assist humanity – contrast the Buddhist approach with the violent Jews, Christians and Muslims. It is clear the Abrahamic religions have degenerated into murdering political organisations – put simply, Christians, Jews and Muslims have lost their religion. It is hoped the shining example of Peaceful mendicants effecting social change in Burma, serves to inspire those who falsely imagine that supporting violent solutions is somehow religion. Myanmar: Condoleezza calls ‘kettle’ black
dingo, Sunday, Sep 23 2007, 3:01pm
Give us all a break, Condi! Your ‘righteous’ indignation and feeble political fumbles in relation to Burma are hypocritical and transparent to the extreme. Ms Rice suddenly seems outraged over the treatment of the Burmese people by the military junta. “The Burmese people deserve better ... they deserve a life to be able to live in freedom … the brutality of this regime is well known and so we will be speaking about that, and I think the president will be speaking about it with many of his colleagues,” she said today. China made it clear that America’s record in Iraq -- one million dead civilians and four million displaced persons not mentioning the total ruin of a nation -- constitutes the most heinous crime of the century and leaves America in no position whatsoever to challenge other nations on moral or human rights issues. Google: a Tzarist model
Kismo, Sunday, Sep 23 2007, 1:03pm
Previous posts (see links) relating to Google sounded a warning which most (including government regulators) chose to ignore but the information juggernaut took note via its own info monitors and pulled all stops in its aims to capture the entire information network! Not content with controlling the lion's share of available info Google now seeks to gain control of information infrastructures by increasing its controlling shares of existing communications companies and NOW by building its own global comms network. The included (below) Australian article reveals Google’s ambitions. However, few have bothered to consider the consequences of Google’s obsessive/manic pursuit of ALL ASPECTS of information control.

Elections Oz: a convenient dirt campaign
yarra, Saturday, Sep 22 2007, 3:37pm
Gutter politics, smear, slur and ‘dirt’ are the order of the day in Oz politics. Accusations and counter accusations from both major parties have captured the attention of the local mass media – as was expected. But to paraphrase William, 'things are not what they seem;’ the incumbent and the contender have both breathed a sigh of relief, the dirt campaign has taken the pressure of our leaders who were faced with the prospect of spelling out their vacuous policies and future ‘plans’ for the nation.

Fears of dollar collapse as Saudis take fright
Ambrose Evans-Pritchard via rialator, Thursday, Sep 20 2007, 1:05pm
